Thoughts And Prayers For John Berryman Reply to this Post

John was at Freedom this weekend riding, and he told me he was having surgery Wednesday morning to remove a tumor from his optic nerve between his eyes.

He sent me a text saying that the surgery went well. The doc was able to remove most of it, but some of it was attached to the optic nerve and will need pencil radiation.

He should be back riding in about 2 weeks; and with clear vision. nerd

Here is a 6 minute video John sent me about the surgery. They go through the nostril to remove the tumor. It is a high risk surgery, because the ooptic nerves, corodded arteries and other high functioning goodies are right there.

Spoke with John today, and he is excited about getting back to a regular routine. For a couple of days after surgery, he had what is commonly referred to as a ice cream headache, but it is all but gone now. He had to sleep sitting up in a chair for a couple of days, to reduce pressure in that area.

The follow up radiation treatment will be done through the skin and bone directed in that area. No need to open him back up. Thr docs said he should be good for another 100k miles. John said he'll be back at a track real soon.
