Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

Vintage/Post Vintage

We need to get together and see if we can get some local tracks to get us a moto during the local races. I bet if we could get 3 or 4 vintage and 3 or 4 post vintage bikes to commit, we could get some races in the Houston area.

Re: Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

Clem and EVO tried this , still offer it..... Problem is NOBODY shows up!

Find a way to get more than 2 to show up, and Mike will more than be happy to add a Vintage / PV gate.. He gave up listing the class because NOBDY will show up... They are all talk....once a year racers...

You want to get to ride with more than yourself in the class....pick a TVRC race and make the drive and really enjoy an event with more than 2 on the gate!

The only way to build V/PV racing back up in Houston area is to form a club, get people involved, and plan picking dates where all the members will try to show up.

But then how to get more than 2 to show up to try and form the club! LMAO!

Re: Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

Lets try to meet up once a month at 3-Palms, Rio, or Bluebonnet. There are plenty of vintage and post vintage guys in the area. 3-Palms this Sunday on the Woods track? EMX race at Rio next month- I bet we could scrape together 10 riders to make a gate. Bluebonnet in June? I don't want to drive 4 hours to race.

Re: Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

Here's the problem with adding a Vintage/Post Vintage to existing races-

IMO, none of us old guys want to wait around all freakin' day from 7am to 6pm to ride 4 laps on a track that's been hammered by modern bikes. I brought my 480 to the 3P 2stroke race recently, and I was the only guy there.

I agree with Hance that for vintage stuff, the TVRC is pretty dang cool. I've only done one TVRC race, but it was a blast- Done by 1:30.

Maybe we could get TVRC to do a few rounds down here?

Has this been entertained?

Re: Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

They did at Buffalo,Tx first time that far down down I-45 in 20 yrs.... Not a chance in hell they come to Houston...98% membership in DFW with plenty of good tracks and big turn outs... They are all spoiled on less than hour drive to tracks Sunday morn..

Re: Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

https://www.ahrmasc.org/ seems to be doing really well, if baseball allows I'll catch y'all in Arkansas for sure....hearing good stuff about that one

The Buffalo races for AHRMA and TVRC are well supported and Rio AHRMA does great....local that's about it

Father Time remains undefeated....very few local guys left from The Original OG's racing when I first got into vintage in mid-90's

AHRMA, in their infinite wisdom, really screwed the pooch and lost an entire generation+ of potential riders/races by blowing off the mid 80's - mid 90's riders

Re: Local Vintage Racing Reply to this Post

Rodney, it's been tried a couple of times but it's not easy getting riders to show up. I don't believe folks are motivated anymore after Hump's old program.
Clem's been successful with his series but it's a money deal and I can't blame him for that. His support comes from the younger riders.

I talked with Danny quite some time ago about getting the old guys out to ride. He was willing to host an "informal" oldschool ride but it would have to be done in the time frame of the early morning up to about the time a regular crowd would come out for a typical day of riding......maybe around 1pm.
In other words, he could give us the track early but can't devote a whole Sunday to just a vintage event. For our group, this could easily be done given the amount of condensed classes, AND have the time to run more laps than the typical 4 or 5.
It's up to US to take this offer and do something with it.

As far as sanctioned events are concerned......I'm done with supporting AHRMA and the "extended appendage" running it. No wonder membership is diminishing.
I'll lend my support to Bubba's "BA Sports" 100 races at DD's and at Rio.
