John Putkey down again Reply to this Post

I talked to Skip Kennedy today and he told me our good Vintage friend John Putkey is back in the hospital. John took a serious hit earlier this year in California. According to Skip he has some sort of aneurysm. If you know John you know he is a brilliant, extremely friendly and helpful individual. He's had a tough year!

Re: John Putkey down again Reply to this Post

Hello Friends

When I crashed at the CZ World Championships in No Cal about 3 months ago, a CT scan showed an aneurysm located in my ascending aorta.

Three Mondays ago I had severe chest pains while visiting relatives in SF, but the pain dissipated after a couple hours, and I new my coronary arteries where clear, so I decided to let it ride and check in to Hermann Med Center when I returned to Houston.

A CT scan in Houston showed a dissection of the upper descending aorta in addition to the stable aneurysm. This sounds serious, and it is, but my dissection is small and focal. I may have bruised the aorta in the previous crash in Ca, and it developed into a tear. The plan is too monitor with imaging and treat with blood pressure meds.

There are lessons to be learned: 1) Do not let a lapper push you off the track; 2) Maybe visiting Ca is not good for my health; and 3) Its a "B" getting old.

I have yet to ride my '83 Yamaha YZ250. Maybe I will see you at Rio for a recreational ride on this modern (to me) bike,

Thank you for your concern!

John and I are in a serious competition as to who has the suckiest year. Skip said it was caused by owning a 1983 YZ250; I think it was those trips out of Houston. Must be the Pasadena air. Stay in Houston; stay healthy.

Best wishes in you're recovery John!

I have a buddy who suffered issues due to aortic aneurism. If the problem goes on, death is the result.
He's keeping a close monitor on it with CT scans every 6 months or so.

Re: John Putkey down again Reply to this Post

John, was the aneurysm form blunt trauma hitting the ground?

I'm guessing an aneurysm is like a bubble on the side of a hose that is ready to bust.

I thought a hard impact could only tear an vessel loose, not create a bubble.
