What a fun, relaxed night of hanging out with friends, with a little racing tossed in for extra memories.
Even ole Russ Bevan made it out with his beautiful family, Kolby Boyd, V-Mac and his crew with Lil-V leading the way. And then there's BigDaddy; with never a dull moment .
If there was ever a rider that gets hole-shot on a regular basis, it would be BigDaddy. He pulls then off with ease. Now the ones where he's a bike length in front of the gate when it drops, those don't count. But he's good otherwise .
There was another rider there in the Vet classes, that I may or may not have raced with before, but I at least knew of him: Ricky Player. I watched his first moto, and like Larry Hughes, his smoothness gives the illusion of slow, but I knew better as I have been served a platter of humility by smooth, slow riders before .
My first moto with Player and Patterson on the gate was a wrestling match. They both squeezed me out for a 3rd on the start, but I was all in. Ricky got out front, and was easing away. Me and Vernon were being kind to each other, but I finally got cozy in a corner and eased on by. I could see I was catching Ricky, but then we caught the other gate of riders, and traffic was a factor. I managed to get inside twice, but couldn't make it stick. On the last right u-turn corner with the checker waving, Ricky went inside, and I was going to try the 2nd rut out, but another rider was there, so I was going to flat-track just outside that. But he stalled, and I hit him from behind, and it sent me wide for a 2nd place finish.
Our next moto together, Vernon didn't make the gate call, as he fell in another moto, and re-injured his not quite healed previously broken ribs. Ricky once again squeezed me out, and I fell in behind. This time he was on his game, but I gave it all the dilithium crystals it had. We stayed a few bikes apart, and I could get pretty close in a few sections, but not close enough for a meeting of the elbows , and took another brides maid award. But that's ok, the game of chase is as much fun as a win sometimes.
Everyone was laughing and cutting up with some bench racing, and everyone was able to drive home. Round 2 at Freedom on a fun track, should be a blast too .
Give them bread and circuses, and they will never revolt.
